Cork Drug & Alcohol Awareness Month

This year the Cork Local Drug & Alcohol Task Force is delighted to announce there will be over 20 events running throughout the course of Drug & Alcohol Awareness Month October 2014 around the city. The aim of Cork Drug & Alcohol Awareness Month is to raise awareness of available drug and alcohol services within communities and signpost individuals, families and professionals so they know where to go to for assistance regarding drug and alcohol related issues.  There will a special emphasis on the inclusion of alcohol to the Drug Task Force brief this year.

The Cork Local Drug & Alcohol Task Force team are highlighting this addition of alcohol to our brief by organising a 4 mile road race on Sunday 26th of October to support the “Hello Sunday Morning” initiative. “Hello Sunday Morning” encourages individuals to look at changing the pattern of their drinking by taking a break from alcohol & incentivising that break with goals e.g taking up running/exercise – please see calendar of events attached and www.hellosundaymorning.org for further information.

Other events throughout the month include open information sessions, workshops and research presentations. People are encouraged to attend relevant events and to promote these events to Service Users, community members and professionals. For further information on any events or to request posters for your community centre/ locality please contact Gemma O’Leary, CLDATF Development Worker on 087-0553255.
