Drug information on TikTok

Each person is unique and each situation can be different for people who use drugs. Therefore you may need different topics from our site.

Information about drugs

We have a series of different pages if you want to learn about the types of substances and their effects.  Find our ‘Types of drug’ section here.

Harm reduction information

While it’s safer not to use at all, we have information for people who choose to use, to help them minimise the harms to their health. You can find our harm reduction advice on our site here.

Drug Emergencies

A drug overdose is when you have too much of a drug. It’s hard to know how much is ‘too much’ when some drugs vary in potency. Knowing the signs of drug overdose and getting medical help could save a life. See our drug emergency information here.

The latest drug trends

Different drug trends can emerge from time to time. We keep updates on the latest trends of concern and relevant alerts here.
We are currently concerned about a number of areas and substances appearing on the drug market such as man made drugs known as synthetic cannabinoids appearing in herbal, vape and edible cannabis products. We are also concerned about trends identified on the MDMA market.

Information for parents

We have tailored information to support parents who want to talk to young people about substance use here.

Support

For people who feel like they need support for either  themselves or a loved one, there are a few options available.

Find a local service

Each area will have free community services nationally that can meet with you, discuss what is going on and help create a care plan for you or a loved one. You can find a service on the HSE National Directory of Drug and Alcohol Services on our site here.

The HSE Drug and Alcohol Helpline

The HSE have a free drug and alcohol helpline available on 1800 459 459 Monday – Friday from 9:30am – 5:30pm or by email at helpline@hse.ie. This service offers non-judgmental and confidential support so you can discuss what is going on and what suitable supports may be available.
