Vine shows the vast difference between a healthy lung and that of a heavy smoker

Scientists demonstrate the upsetting damage smoking has on your lungs on video.

Heavy smokers looking for encouragement to quit need only look at a new video which compares healthy lungs to those of a heavy smoker.

The vine, which was posted by user Devon Arbelo, demonstrates the damage long-term and persistent smoking can have on your lungs.

While doctors throughout the world have suggested that the smoker’s lungs, represented in the video, are an extreme example the fact remains over 5,500 Irish people die each year due to smoking related illnesses.

Research suggests that 8 out of 10 smokers have a desire to quit and 4 out of 10 attempt to give up each year.

One out of two smokers will die of a smoking related disease and most smokers live between 10 and 15 years shorter than those who have never picked up a cigarette.
