Teenagers now using illegal steroids in bid to ‘bulk up’

Steroids, previously just a problem among elite athletes, have now trickled down into the mainstream fitness world with even teenagers now taking them in an attempt to 'bulk up', warns fitness guru Karl Henry.

Writing in today's Irish Independent, he said the massive increase in seizures by Revenue customs officers shows how pervasive they have become.

In 2014, 16,000 units of steroids were seized, rising to 40,000 in 2015 and last year, a massive 109,000 units were seized.

"Even young teenagers can pick up these illegal drugs with relative ease, either online and through dealers that are omnipresent in some gyms around Ireland.
