Naphyrone being considered for control under the Misuse of Drugs Acts

Mr Pat Carey, T.D., Minister for Community, Equality & Gaeltacht Affairs, stated today that naphyrone and related substances are being considered for control under the Misuse of Drugs Act. This follows the introduction of such controls in the UK on 23rd July.

Minister Carey said: “A group of experts have been convened and they are working with the Department of Health and Children on possible generic definitions to bring a further range of substances, including potential new substances, under the control of the Misuse of Drugs Acts.  This group is examining the approach taken in the UK, as well as across the EU.  The introduction of controls on further psychoactive substances is envisaged in the near future.”
