Prescription meds increase fall risk

Younger people may be at an increased risk of suffering a fall in their home if they are taking at least two prescription medicines, a new study has found.

Unintentional falls are most often associated with older people, so researchers from New Zealand decided to look more closely at the issue among people of working age. They looked at cases relating to anyone who had died or required hospital admission following a fall in their home in Auckland in 2005 and 2006.

Almost 350 cases were identified and these were compared to a similar number of people who had not experienced an unintentional fall.
