Police in fresh warning over drugs

Police have reissued warnings about potentially lethal drugs currently in circulation in Northern Ireland.

It comes after a small quantity of green-coloured ecstasy tablets were seized in Co Antrim.

Similar pills - known as "green Rolexes" - have been linked to the deaths of two people in their 20s and 30s in the region.

Detective Inspector Andy Dunlop, of the Police Service of Northern Ireland's (PSNI) organised crime branch, said: "Despite previous warnings by police and continued uncertainty surrounding the causes of a number of recent unexplained deaths, people are continuing to put their lives at risk.

"The combination of MDMA (ecstasy) and PMMA (paramethoxymethamphetamine) can be particularly hazardous to health and has been linked with numerous deaths worldwide.

"PMMA is particularly toxic. Both dealers and users may be unaware that what they believe to be ecstasy actually contains PMMA."
