Over 540 people have been stopped for drink-driving so far this year.
Figures for January released by An Garda Siochána show that both drink-driving offences and road fatalities in January were down on the same month in 2014.
The figures show that 544 people were arrested for drink-driving in January, after the gardaí set up 6,598 mandatory alcohol testing checkpoints.
29,419 breath tests were carried out at these checkpoints, leading to the detention of 1,538 vehicles.
