Irish live longer but drink more

Figures from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) have revealed the average  Irish person will now live to reach 80 years old.

The data shows the average life expectancy in Ireland has risen by ten years.

The OECD analysed 34 countires and found that the Japanese have the highest life expectancy at 83 whilst Turkey have the lowest life expectancy at just 73.

As part of the survey OECD also analysed progress in health for each country.

The figures suggest that whilst alcohol consumption levels fell in other countries they rose in Britain and Ireland
