Interactive drama project will teach teenagers about dangers of drugs

Hundereds of teenagers will learn about the impact of drugs on the wider community as part of an interactive drama project due to take place in Limerick.

Safety Street is Ireland’s first interactive centre.

Following the success of an inaugural event in 2010, this year’s project will focus on the impact of drugs on the individual, the family and the wider community.

Teenagers from various youth groups in Limerick City will work their way through the interactive centre, where they will get to experience realistic scenarios in a safe environment.

Geraldine Tuite, a team leader with Limerick Community Co-ordinators, said: "We hope to encourage young people to look at their behaviour and the impact of this behaviour on themselves, their families and their community. We have consulted with partner agencies when developing the scenarios and held focus groups with local teenagers not only to get their feedback but also to perform in the scenarios.
