Hungover drivers as dangerous as drunk motorists

Driving with a hangover is just as dangerous as drunk driving, two new international studies have confirmed.

Motorists who believe they are fit to drive once the alcohol leaves their system -- but who are still hungover from the night before -- are every bit as likely to make the same mistakes as those who are over the limit.

The study at Utrecht University saw participants consume an average of 10 drinks the night before. No alcohol was present in their bloodstream at the time of testing. The motorway test revealed the participants were increasingly weaving and demonstrated an inability to keep attention on the road at the same rate as someone with 50 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.
