HIV cases fall by 16%

The number of cases of HIV infection in Ireland dropped by just over 16% last year.

However,10 AIDS deaths were reported last year, bringing the total number of AIDS deaths in Ireland to date to 421.

According to the HSE's Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC), a total of 331 people (240 men and 89 women) were newly-diagnosed with HIV in 2010 compared to 395 the previous year.
