Drug campaigner warns of crystal meth problem

We need to start dealing with the problem of crystal meth – though we haven’t even started to deal with the cocaine problem here yet, a leading campaigner for homeless and drug-addicted young people said.

Fr Peter McVerry also claimed the war on drugs had been lost; the criminal justice system had failed; and drugs were more widely available than ever before.

And he warned parents are "hopelessly ignorant" about the drug culture and need to be educated about it as a priority.

"Drugs are here to stay. Parents should realise that every child over the age of 15 should be presumed to have tried drugs. Everywhere a child goes, drugs are going to be available," he added.
