Drug awareness evening for Cashel

Tipperary Regional Youth Service is hosting an information evening on substance misuse in their building in Hogan Square, Cashel (across from the Garda Station) on Tuesday, June 8, at 7.30pm. The evening is open to all members of the community to attend and will examine current trends in substance misuse as well as making available information for parents, resident associations and other members of the community. As most people are aware, the issue of substance misuse amongst young people and the community at large is increasing and becoming more problematic.

This trend is likely to continue as Ireland continues to experience a recession. This will in turn throw up problems for parents who are unaware of the dangers and current trends in substance misuse amongst young people. The rise in heroin use in Tipperary is also causing problems for residents associations who are ill equipped and have no knowledge on how to deal with syringes and other drug paraphernalia which are starting to appear in our urban areas. Substance misuse affects families from all social backgrounds and often leaves individuals feeling isolated and alone.

This evening will offer information on what supports are available and how they can be accessed. The evening is co-ordinated by the Carmel O'Neill, Project worker with the Mid Tipperary Drug Initiative and supported by Ms Sinead O'Mahony, Drug Education Officer, Substance Misuse Service, HSE. If you wish to receive more information on this information evening please contact Tipperary Regional Youth Service on (062) 52604
