Drug and Alcohol Awareness Week events in Mayo

A number of events are taking place at venues throughout Mayo to mark the Western Region Drug and Alcohol Awareness Week, which is taking place from the 12th to 16th of November.

The events are being organized by the Mayo Sports Partnership in association with the Western Region Drugs Task Force (WRDTF), Mayo County Development Board and South West Mayo Development Company.
.

Pat Conway, Mayo Community Liaison Worker, who was the initiator of the idea, said: “We want to help reduce the harm caused to people and families across Mayo by the misuse of alcohol and drugs. In order to do this, we have to first look at the way in which alcohol and drugs are an integral part of our culture and how we socialise.  We do not see alcohol as a drug. We can’t begin to change this until we confront it.”
