The Chairman of the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland (DIGI), Kieran Tobin, has urged all DIGI members to be especially vigilant in the sale of alcohol over the St Patrick's Day holiday, to reduce the likelihood of public order issues and in particular to prevent minors accessing alcohol.
Mr Tobin said that while disturbances on St Patrick's Day had reduced markedly in recent years, through the efforts of An Garda Siochana and others, there was still a clear need for all alcohol retailers to ensure that young people are not sold alcohol on the national holiday.
