Busy Offaly schedule for Drug Awareness Week

The Midland Regional Drugs Task Force (MRDTF) has announced that it is running a major Drug and Alcohol Awareness Week from October 1 - 5. The week is to be launched in the Tullamore Court Hotel on Monday, October 1 at 11am, while many awareness events will take place in Offaly over the course of the event's five days.

The primary role of the MRDTF is to research, develop, implement and monitor a more co-ordinated response to the problem of drug and alcohol misuse as experienced in the counties of Longford, Westmeath, Laois and Offaly.

On Monday, October 1 Edenderry library will begin hosting an event organised by Edenderry Addressing Substance Abuse (EASA) and Offaly Local Development Company. The art exhibition by eight to twelve year olds who took part in a previous workshop will run in the library all week, with everyone welcome to call in for a look.

At 7pm on Tuesday, October 2 Tullamore library is the venue for a talk entitled "Communicating with your Child". The talk that's organised by Tullamore Town Council and the town's Joint Policing Committee will look at simple ways of communicating and ways of improving communication.

On Wednesday, October 3 the Midlands Simon Community will give an overview of the services it provides at the Darmagh Centre, Lanello in Tullamore from 9.30am until 1pm. On the same day a youth health talk introducing the Ana Liffey Service to Traveller youth will take place at Birr's Scurragh Community Hall from 7pm until 8pm.
