Nightclub rapped for advertising ‘test tube’ shots

MEAS was responding to a complaint by a member of the public that an advertisement by The Burn Beach Club, that recently changed its name to Tribe Nightclub, could encourage illegal or irresponsible drinking.

One of two posters advertising beach-theme parties at the Stillogan venue referred to the availability of alcohol in test tubes.

MEAS said the test tube packaging format was effectively urging down-in-one consumption because the container could not be set down on its base on a flat surface.

It also found a poster promoting a beach-theme drinks promotion last September was in breach of the code because it had images of people who looked as if they were under 25.

MEAS chief executive, Fionnuala Sheehan thanked people who brought their concerns to her organisation.

"The vigilance of citizens is the most effective way of bringing irresponsible practices in the marketing and sale of alcohol to our attention," she said.
