The “Let’s Talk About Drugs” National Youth Media Awards 2018 overall winners announced

The Drugs.ie "Let’s Talk About Drugs” National Youth Media Awards 2018 overall winners have been announced at an awards ceremony in Dublin.

The overall winning entry for the 12-17-year-old category was from Ryan Cramp Keeley for a video on the theme 'Talk about – cannabis and the risks'.

The overall winning entry for the 18-25- year old category was from Taz Kelleher for a poster on the theme 'Performance and Image Enhancing Drugs – what are the risks?'

This annual competition encourages discussion of drug-related issues by inviting young people aged between 12-25 to produce either a short video, audio recording, poster or article relating to drug and/or alcohol use.

Speaking at the event, guest of honour, Newstalk Breakfast presenter, Shane Coleman said: "We need young people to talk openly about the risks associated with drug and alcohol use so they can make informed decisions for themselves”.

Special guests handing out the category prizes were Colin Clark, Union of Students in Ireland; Andrew Rooney, Merchants Quay Ireland; Stuart Clarke, Hot Press and Catalina Vieru, Ana Liffey Drug Project.

Tony Duffin, Director of the Ana Liffey Drug Project, said: "It’s important to give young people a platform so that they can communicate around drug issues in a way that is meaningful to them and to their peers".
