The Recovery Walk is an international event designed to build awareness and community support around the concept of addiction Recovery. Established over twenty years ago, this year will be Ireland’s 4th Annual  Recovery Walk, taking place on September 12th 12.30-4pm in Woodquay Amphitheatre behind Christchurch Cathedral in Dublin. The Recovery Walk event is for it to be a fun filled and FREE family day with an amazing musical line up and other entertainment. Recovery Walk Ireland 2015 is part of a number of international events that aim to:

  • Celebrate and support recovery
  • Promote the positive impact of recovery on individuals, families and the community
  • Remove the stigma surrounding addiction.

Who will walk?

This year we will be joined by legendary musician Christy Dignam who will perform at the event and Minister Aodhán O'Riordan will open the event. Individuals in recovery as well as their friends and loved ones who wish to support them and join them in celebrating their recovery.  Addiction is often referred to as a “family condition” because of the effect is has on the family and wider circle of friends, work colleagues and neighbours.  Thus, the Recovery Walk is for anyone affected to celebrate the freedom from addiction in their lives.

Why?

The Recovery Foundation is a not for profit organization promoting education around the area of recovery, which together with a dedicated team of volunteers, is bringing the walk to Ireland  to show the healthy and positive results of recovery. When we view addiction and the difficulties associated with it, we must also see that change is possible, there is hope and Recovery should be celebrated. Addiction has no social barriers, there are people in every community affected and there are also people in every community who have found their own recovery. The Recovery Walk is about bringing all these people together to celebrate their achievements and inviting society to support, encourage and join in the celebration’.
