SMART Recovery pilot phase 2: Calls for expressions of interest (BCAT)

Bray Community Addiction Team (BCAT), through the guidance of the National Steering Group, call for expressions of interest from addiction services and related agencies to participate in the second phase of the SMART Recovery pilot initiative.

SMART Recovery offers a science based, non faith based and abstinence based peer support programme that uses tools and techniques grounded in cognitive behavioural principals.  The programme focuses on building motivation, coping with urges, problem solving and maintaining a balanced lifestyle.  If you wish to find out more about SMART Recovery please go to www.smartrecovery.org.

In 2015, Bray Community Addiction Team (BCAT), through a licensing agreement with SMART in the USA, under the guidance of a National Steering Group, and through funding secured through the National Addiction Training Programme (NATP) established a pilot to progress the development of SMART Recovery in Ireland.  The outcomes of the initial pilot are that:
•         there have been over 140 front line workers trained in SMART Recovery facilitation across the greater Dublin area, Cork, the North East and the South East
•         there are 16 meetings currently running with a further 6 due by the end of April;
•         drugs.ie, in partnership with BCAT and SMART USA are developing an Irish on-line training
•         SMART Ireland website is under construction; and the network of SMART Recovery is growing.

Through funding secured through the NATP the National Steering Group is now extending the Pilot for a further 6 months, and you are invited to submit an expression of interest to be involved in the process (attached).  The National Steering Group will assess expressions of interest received and make decisions based on the Criteria outlined in the Expression of Interest.  The closing date is Thursday 12 May 2016.
